Frequently Asked Questions
How often should my pet have an exam and/or bloodwork?
Mercy Animal Hospital recommends yearly exams for pets at the least. Pets age faster than humans, so therefore 2 years between the exams for pets is equivalent to almost 10 years for humans! Younger and senior pets will need more frequent exams due to the need for vaccinations and medical therapy.
Why does my pet need a dental procedure?
Pets as young as one year of age can begin to experience dental issues, and approximately 80% of pets over the age of three have some form of periodontal disease. If your pet shows advanced disease or an abscessed tooth, it is best to take care of it as soon as possible before your pet becomes very ill with bacterial disease or sepsis.
How important is nutrition for my pet?
Most domestic pets rely on their owners for nutrition, meaning they will only eat what we supply them. Animals should only eat animal food and treats to keep a healthy weight and healthy digestive and skeletal system. If your pet suffers from allergies, hypoallergenic foods and treats are a great way to keep them from suffering from allergy side effects.
